What is Long-Term Care?

Let's start with the basics so you understand what we're planning for

Long-term care (LTC) refers to a range of services that help people who have difficulty performing basic everyday activities—called Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)—for an extended period.

Key ADLs include:

  • Bathing
  • Dressing
  • Eating
  • Using the toilet
  • Moving around
  • Managing continence

Where is LTC provided?

At home: With visiting nurses, aides, or family caregivers

Adult day care centers: Providing social and health services during the day

Assisted living facilities: For those who need some help with daily care

Nursing homes: For individuals who need a high level of supervision and care
